This van started its life as a Sears delivery van! It survived the commercial years and the '70s van craze to be purchased by Gary Armendariz, who is a van aficionado. He took the 6-cylinder out and put in a V8, and next year plans to put in a big block engine. He then painted it 1955 Ford Aqua Blue tone, which is his favorite color for a car. For nostalgia's sake, and because it's so rare, he left in the "Three on the Tree" 3-speed on the column. The motor sits between the driver and passenger's seats, making the van's interior really hot in the summer.
There were 8.142 of these vans with the flat nose made from 1964 - 1966, and then the body style changed in 1967 to a more rounded nose. Gary took the chrome ideas for the van from the Family Van version made in 1966.
He came to Ogden Chrome with some pretty banged-up pieces, including the bumper, which was bent at a 90 degree angle! We were able to straighten out and chrome the original bumper and he says that until it was straightned, he didn't even know that there was an original factory line on it! We also chromed the handi-man emblem and the mirrors.
Thanks to Gary for sending this in!
