Our Plating Process

At Ogden Chrome Plating we take pride in our employees and their work. We have been doing business since 1959, under the same ownership. Six of our fifty plus employees have been with us since the beginning. That kind of experience is hard to find.

Over the years there is not much we have not plated or tried to plate. With almost 40 years in the plating industry we are able to help our customers create products that last a lifetime.

Currently we have the ability to plate in copper, nickel, and chrome. We can plate items as large as 18 inches wide by 8 feet long by 3 feet tall or as small as a door handle. Our semi-automatic transports system enables us to handle anywhere from a single item to over 2,000 pieces in an efficient manner.

Chrome Plating

At Ogden Chrome Plating our goal is to provide our customers with the finest in chrome plating. Our products are processed with the utmost of care and quality control.

1. All items are digitally photographed and stored in the computer as well as printed on the work orders that follow the items through the entire plating process. At every station we are able to verify the items inventory and check for quality control.

2. We carefully strip your parts of old chrome, by using a bead blast and an acid bath to clean each part.

3. Parts are then straightened, repaired and any imperfections are taken. Parts are checked against a bumper template for a perfect fit.

4. Each item is then ground and sanded to remove further imperfections.

5. We next polish your parts until they shine to a mirror-like finish.

6. A final hand inspection is done on your parts to insure that there are no imperfections, before your parts are placed in the plating process. If an imperfection is found, it is filled by welding or silver soldering.

7. The plating process is a three step process. Your parts are first plated with a heavy layer of soft copper, then rinsed in two baths of water to remove any excess copper. Secondly we repeatedly buff the surface until it is perfect. Next it is plated with a layer of nickel and then repeatedly rinsed, to remove any left over residue. The nickel plating gives your product the silver finish. Then we plate your product with a clear chrome finish. This chrome plating is what gives your product that high luster, and durable finish.

8. Your part is visually checked for any imperfections and is compared one last time to a template to make sure of a perfect fit. If a problem is found, then we repeat any process that is necessary to fix the imperfection.

9. Each part is then checked with the original picture to make sure all parts of your order are ready and that each piece is
wrapped and packaged for pickup or shipping to anywhere in the world.

Quality assurance

Quality Assurance is taken at each step of the plating process.

1. When we start with your core, we individually analyze it to make sure that it is scheduled to receive all the processes necessary for the best finished product.

2. At each work station the product is inspected to our high quality standards before it can be sent to the next step in the process.

3. Each part in a set is checked against the original picture at each step in the process to make sure that all parts are together and do not get lost.

4. Finally before a part is packaged for shipment our Quality Assurance staff checks all facets of your product to make sure no unnecessary imperfections exits, and if an imperfection is found, they will take what ever measures that we can to fix the problem.
